Harvard University: 2021-2022 Season Preview

2021-2022 SEASON PREVIEW

  • The Harvard men and women are the defending national champions from 2020, and they are prepping to be at the top of their game to defend their titles this season.
  • The Crimson women will need to reload in order to finish atop the Ivy League and national standings. They graduated four All-America selections, including three-time national champion Georgina Kennedy, leaving national finalist Hana Moataz and top young American Marina Stefanoni to lead the way.
  • The men’s team has a deep set of returners, including two former national champions, Victor Crouin and Marwan Tarek, but top opponents will try to challenge the depth of their squad.

  • Jamie King’s Hamilton team rosters will be full of talent and drive as the beginning of the 2021-2022 approaches.
  • The women’s team will rely on their experience to improve upon their last 2020 ranking of 24 thanks to seven returning starters, including the top five players.
  • The Hamilton men fell just short of the Conroy Cup (D Division) title in 2020, and they will need to fill four starting spots evenly dispersed in their ladder in order to break into the Top 25 this season.

2021-2022 SEASON PREVIEW

  • After a one year delay due to the pandemic, Georgetown launches its varsity women’s program this season under newly signed head coach Tim Lasusa.
  • The Georgetown women were the highest ranked club team in 2020, so they should settle in right away against varsity competition.
  • Zuha Nazir, a transfer from George Washington University across town, leads a group of six newcomers who should bolster the Hoyas’ efforts to earn a Top-24 position by the end of the season.

  • The Franklin & Marshall squash programs add another season to their storied history as Head Coach Gavin Jones enters his 11th season in charge.
  • The women’s team made it to the final of the Walker Cup (C Division) in 2020, but breaking into the Top 16 is their goal for this season with 6 of their top 7 starters returning from two years ago.
  • The F&M men lost Skillman Award finalist Sanjay Jeeva and five of his teammates to graduation, leaving several areas of need in the top of the ladder. A Top-16 finish is their main goal as well.

  • The Fordham men’s team has won the Chaffee Cup (E Division) in the last two full seasons, and their goal is to make it three in a row in 2022.
  • In order to meet their goals, the Rams will need critical contributions from their five incoming players, who will fill holes on the roster left by five graduated starters.

  • Both Drexel programs ended the 2020 season in their respective National Championship draws for the first time in school history.
  • The men’s team, in particular, returns almost the entire roster from that successful run and, with their additional four recruits, will be knocking on the door for a Top 4 position if things fall into place.
  • The Drexel women lose a few more players to graduation than the men, but they will be no less motivated to improve upon their 7th-place ranking with five new recruits in the squad.

2021-2022 SEASON PREVIEW

  • Both teams add strong recruiting classes to a solid core of performers as they jump back into competition after last year’s hiatus.
  • The reigning two-time Conroy Cup (D Division) Champion men’s team will have their eyes on Summers Cup (C Division) glory in 2022.
  • Currently, this season is slated to be the last as a varsity team for the men’s program after the College announced its transition to club status in August.
  • After threatening to transition the women’s team to club status as well, Dickinson reversed course and reinstated varsity women’s squash to better accommodate gender equity imbalances in the athletics department.
  • The Dickinson women will be on a mission to prove that they belong with a Top-20 finish this season.

  • Assistant Coach Luke Forster is steering the ship while Dartmouth Athletics searches for a replacement for 14-year head coach Hansi Wiens, who stepped down in July.
  • The Dartmouth women will need to balance an experienced top half of the lineup with roster additions who fill four open spots in the back half of the order.
  • They are eager to return to a Top-8 position after dropping to 10th in 2020.
  • The Big Green men bring back everybody but their top two starters from 2020, which creates a deep squad full of internal competition, which will push them to improve on their No. 12 ranking during the last full season.
