WOMEN’S AWARD SUMMARY
Richey Award (Player and Sportswoman of the Year): Candidates are evaluated on the following criteria: On-court poise and demeanor; skill level and ability; team play; contributions to intercollegiate squash; leadership; and cooperation with players, coaches, and tournament officials.
Teams may not nominate players from their own college or university. Notification of the candidates and a copy of supporting data is emailed to each coach at least one week prior to National Team Championships (Howe Cup). The coach and captain(s) of each team consult with their teams and come to the National Team Championship meeting prepared to vote. Each institution has two votes, which should be in writing and collected by the Awards Chair at the National Team Championship meeting.
Last season, the Richey Award was presented to Yale’s Logan Greer.
Wetzel Award (Best Senior Player to Learn Squash in College): To be eligible for this award, candidates may not have played squash prior to their experience at their collegiate institution. The individual who wins must show outstanding growth technically as a player (records and results); a sound understanding of the rules of squash; and a positive on-court poise and demeanor.
Players are nominated by their coaches or club team captain. The coach or club team captain and the player must submit certification that the player has not played squash prior to starting college. The player’s nomination will be published on the CSA website prior to the National Team Championships (Howe Cup) to confirm their eligibility.
Last season, the Wetzel Award was presented to Amherst’s Mimi Bell.
Lifetime Achievement Award: This award recognizes those rare individuals who have contributed throughout their career to college squash as a whole and who have dedicated a career to the sport. This award is not presented annually, but rather only when it is truly merited.
Hall of Fame: Induction into the College Squash Hall of Fame is an honor reserved for the top players, coaches, and friends of college squash.
- Players: Hall of Fame awards are given for overall excellence exhibited during an individual’s college career, usually (but not necessarily) including at least one win of the collegiate individual championships. Inductees also usually have continuing presence in and commitment to squash following their college career.
- Coaches: Hall of Fame awards are given to coaches who have left a signature imprint on the college game and who usually coached at least ten years. The award is typically given after individuals retire from coaching.
- Friends of College Squash: Hall of Fame awards are given to individuals who have made a significant impact on the college game as promoters, sponsors, or in other roles.
Chaffee Award (Team Sportsmanship): At the Team Championships (Howe Cup), teams also vote on the Chaffee Award (Team Sportsmanship). Last season, Jamie King and Hamilton College were presented with the Chaffee Award.
Most Improved Team Award: At the Team Championships (Howe Cup), teams also vote on the Most Improved Team Award. Last season, Columbia was presented with the Most Improved Team Award.
MEN’S AWARD SUMMARY
Skillman Award (Senior Sportsmanship): This award is given annually to a senior men’s squash player who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship during his entire college career. Candidates are evaluated in the following areas: on-court poise and demeanor; skill level and ability in the game of squash; team play; contributions to intercollegiate squash; leadership; and cooperation with players, coaches, and tournament officials.
Coaches and team contacts should email nominations and any supporting material, which should not exceed three paragraphs in length, to the Executive Administrator by February 1st.
The Men’s Executive Committee then selects the candidates for the award. At the men’s National Team Championships, all coaches are told who the candidates are and are given any supporting material with information about the candidates.
Last season, Princeton’s David Letourneau was presented with the Skillman Award.

Sloane Award (Team Sportsmanship): At Team Championships, teams vote for the Sloane Award. Last season, Middlebury was presented with the Sloane Award.

Each season, the College Squash Association recognizes the academic talents of many of its student athletes with the men’s and women’s CSA Scholar Athlete Awards. Please note that late submissions will be ineligible for the award.
