Bates: 2012 – 2013 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Lewiston, ME — By the time the 2011-2012 season was in the books, the Bates Bobcats had reclaimed their place from the year before, maintaining their national ranking of 15th and repeating as seventh-place finishers in the Hoehn Cup at the Men’s National Team Championships. Considering the Bobcats only had three players returning from the 2010-2011 championship line-up, holding their ground was quite a feat. Expect even more from the team this season, as Bates returns a cadre of seasoned players and adds five new players into the varsity mix, including 2011 US Junior Open winner Ahmed Abdel Khalek, who should play in the top three. As always, the Bates team will be busy this season, making an annual retreat to Acadia National Park and taking in the Tournament of Champions in New York City. In between, the team will participate in biweekly yoga and meditation sessions and continue their volunteer work with Sudanese and Somali children in the Lewiston area. Bates will also host its 2nd Annual Bobcat Classic Pro and Amateur Tourney with David Palmer and Wael El Hindi on October 26 and 27. “Squash at Bates is a lifestyle and the teams are the College’s most geographically and culturally-diverse, along with being among its most successful,” says head coach Pat Cosquer. “We work hard and play like Bobcats.”
