Navy: 2018-2019 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Rookie Head Coach Tyler Osborne arrived on base at the U.S. Naval Academy this summer with an impressive playing and coaching resume and a full understanding of the task he was taking on. “Navy has been in the bottom half of the B draw for the last couple years and with the league getting stronger, our goal is to get into the B draw while giving ourselves the best chance to win the first round.” The Midshipmen will get a tough early test at home with team-on-the-rise Virginia visiting midweek this week. It will also be imperative that they protect their position from teams chasing them in the rankings, including regular season foes Cornell, Dickinson, and Franklin & Marshall.  Although the squad loses its top player from last year, Jack Herold, they already have some tough intrasquad competition to see who can grab the top spot.  Included in that top group is team captain Senen Ubina, who will work to eclipse the 70-win plateau for his career during his senior season. Osborne will also welcome five freshman to the squad, who, like their new coach, will be working hard at getting up to speed in a new environment.
