Middlebury: 2016 – 2017 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Middlebury College Middlebury, VT — After winning three Summers Cups in a row, Middlebury finally made the leap into the B Division last year, and the Panthers aren’t looking back. “With a large and strong incoming class, we’d like to move up in the B Division,” reports Middlebury head coach Mark Lewis. Seven first-year players will be joining the squad, which finished 15th in the nation last year. This season’s team will be led by co-captains Wyatt French and Andrew Cadienhead. Last season, French had key wins over Navy and Brown, matches that again will be crucial for the Panthers in the competitive B Division. Look for Williams and Bates to be significant pieces of Middlebury’s regular-season schedule as well. According to Lewis, “All of these matches will be close and will determine out seedings in the NESCAC tournament and nationals.” The Panthers closed out the 2015 – 2016 season with a 5-4 win over Brown; Middlebury remarkably went 5 for 5 in 5-4 matches last year. New technology — a monitor and ipads to implement live scoring with club locker for home matches — will enhance Middlebury’s training this year. Lewis characterizes the Panthers as a “close team that is committed to the hard work necessary to improve.”
