Clark Emerson reports on the Jesters Southeastern College Team Invitational.

Atlanta, GA — Traditional tournament power College of Charleston and new CSA competitor University of Miami were the clear class of the field at the 8th annual Jesters Southeastern Team Tournament January 16-18, 2015.

The two teams, which both fielded eight players, met for the championship in the tournament’s final matchup. After falling behind 4-1, Charleston rallied to win the last three matches, creating a 4-4 tie. Miami was awarded the championship based on head-to-head games won.

This year’s field was the largest ever, and included other new participants Notre Dame and Davidson, as well as returning participants Vanderbilt, Sewanee and North Carolina. Rhodes College (Memphis) participated as a non-CSA team.

Tournament organizers announced that next year’s event will again be held over Martin Luther King, Jr., weekend, January 15-17, 2016. Organizers plan to field a separate women’s draw that weekend.

The event was again sponsored by the Jesters Club and was one of a series of Jester collegiate tournaments throughout the country each year, featuring club and emerging CSA teams.

Southeast Squash (SESRA), the regional squash association, organized the Atlanta event. It was hosted by Midtown Athletic Club and Westminster Schools.
