Richmond, VA — College squash is taking off in Virginia. Richmond is the second program to emerge in the Old Dominion State. Jon Patterson explains that the Spiders want to reach the 2014 Men’s National Team Championship as a full nine player team. To help Richmond achieve that goal, they have eight freshman with squash experience joining the team. “We will be a solid team for the next 4 years, and our team will only improve from here,” explains Patterson. Richmond is focused on its match with UVA. Patterson states that “While we are optimistic we can hold our own against UVA, we are certainly the underdogs coming into this match.” To prepare for all of their matches, including the UVA contest, the Spiders will be practicing at the Westwood Country Club with coaching from Stephen O’Dwyer. The 2013 – 2014 season may very well be the launch of the Richmond program and the beginning of a squash rivalry in Virginia.
