Stanford: 2013 – 2014 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Stanford UniversityStanford, CA — One of the biggest matches on Stanford’s schedule is Cornell. The Cardinal’s goal for this year is to improve on last year’s finish, and the road to that improvement inevitably goes through the Big Red’s territory. “Cornell is always a close match as we have both finished ranked 6 and 7 for the past few years,” says Stanford head coach Mark Talbott. Last season, Cornell edged out Stanford 5-4 in the Howe Cup consolation semifinals. If Stanford is going to reverse that result, they will have to do it without three of their top four players from last year, who have graduated. Fortunately, three new players (Baily Bondy, Julia Olson, and CC Ho) are expected to compete in the middle of the line-up. The newcomers are joining a squad that does more than train hard. “We have awesome chemistry, and it’s like camp every day at the courts,” Talbott enthuses. “We have fun every single day.” Stanford will also continue to be involved with Xtreme Squash, an urban squash program.
