Williams College Ephs

2022-2023 Season Preview

  • In a way, the 2021-2022 season was one to forget for head coach Zafi Levy and his Williams Ephs squash teams. Although they pulled things together in the end to finish 13th (men) and 14th (women), the middle of the season brought several unforeseen challenges which were not welcome.
  • With a clean slate in 2022-2023, Williams will be back competing for NESCAC supremacy and two high-end B Division finishes.
  • The women’s team remains strong in the top three places of the lineup, but new players will need to deliver in the bottom two-thirds in order to find success.
  • The Williams men welcome a recruit in each of the three portions of the standard ladder who should fill in nicely for last year’s departed players.

2022-2023 Season Preview

  • The Western University Mustangs finished 12th in the rankings last season, but head coach Chris Hanebury is confident that his squad can improve on that result this year.
  • Part of that confidence comes from the make-up of his roster and the returning starters. Only the No. 4 player from last year’s starters has moved on, and Western has also added at least three impact recruits to add to their depth.

2022-2023 Season Preview

  • The Wesleyan Women’s team enters the 2022-2023 season with a new-look roster and high hopes for a successful season. After graduating five seniors from a team with no junior members, the women’s team will be young and ambitious this year.
  • The men’s team will have a much more familiar look to it with all nine starters from the team championships returning for another season. Matching that experience with a few talented recruits will result in a deeper squad that will push for NESCAC and divisional success.

University of Virginia Cavaliers

2022-2023 Season Preview

  • For the first time in program history, both Virginia teams competed in the A Division at the national team championships last season. The goal, without question, is to make that feat a trend rather than a one-of occurrence.
  • The top of the men’s lineup will be a formidable force to overcome with talented Egyptian players likely occupying the first four positions. That leaves only one additional win needed to clinch dual match victories, and the Cavalier men’s ladder will be poised to provide what is needed.
  • The top six starters return for head coach Mark Allen’s women’s team, which should bode well for another difficult start to the season. Virginia’s women’s experience early last season of outlasting their opponents in close victories should be valuable as they approach the new year.

And we are hopeful that we can repeat that feat for a second consecutive time during the ’22-’23 edition. We are especially excited to host a number of excellent opponents here at home, with our fans cheering us on at McArthur Squash Center. In addition to key matches against Yale, Columbia, and Drexel, we will also be serving as hosts for the MASC Championships for the first time since 2018”.

  • Tufts head coach Joe Raho is feeling confident coming into this season on the back of impressive performances to finish out the 2022 championship season.

  • Not to be outdone, the Tufts men took their fifth seed in the Summers (C) Division all the way to the final and finished in 18th as the third highest ranked NESCAC men’s team. Look out for the men to push for a B Division berth this season.

Trinity College Bantams

2022-2023 Season Preview

  • Much like their traditional rivals Princeton, the Trinity teams had a string of bad luck at the wrong time last season which impacted their performances at the team championships.
  • After losing only two starters to graduation and gaining a few high-level recruits, the Bantam women will be very strong contenders for a national championship this season. The difficult loss to upstart Drexel in last season’s national semifinals will surely weigh on their minds as they prepare for this season.
  • Trinity’s men are a deep squad and interchangeable talent throughout the top half of the ladder. Losing All-American Miko Aijanen to graduation is a tough blow, but the team will know that their five wins can come from anywhere in the lineup on any day.
