Vassar: 2011 – 2012 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Poughkeepsie, NY — Vassar’s goal for this season is to finish inside the top 40, and the Brewers will have an opportunity to move up early in the season. In November they’ll take on Haverford, who finished last season ranked 39th. Early on they’ll also play Fordham, who finished 47th,  so by the end of November, the Brewers, who finished 43rd, will have a good sense of where they stand in relation to other E and F Division teams.

Vassar has lost three players but has three new players who should fill their places in the line-up. First-year player Michael Sankovich joins the team from the Pingry School and is expected to play in the top 3. Yi Tan and Marshall Daly are returning from study abroad; Tan is expected to play in the middle 3 and Daly to play in the bottom 3. Jake Harris, last season’s number 1, will be studying abroad in the fall but will return to the team in the spring, when Andrew Lindsay will do a semester abroad.

The team has a new assistant coach, Robert McDavid, who played for Rochester during their rise to the top levels of college squash. Vassar has also installed new A/V equipment in their squash facility, and the players will be sporting new uniforms as well. Head coach Jane Parker describes the team as “determined to look sharp, work hard, and enjoy the experience.”
