College Squash Weekend Preview, November 17-19

The college squash season gets into full swing with a full slate of matches across the country this weekend.

The first matchup between top-five ranked teams of the season will occur on Saturday when the No. 5 Stanford women travel east to take on No. 2 University of Pennsylvania on neutral courts at the University of Virginia. The Cardinals will face another top-five opponent on Sunday when they play Princeton at George Washington University. Stanford will look to upend the rankings and turn around the result from 2016 against Princeton, when the Tigers snuck a 6-3 victory with several wins coming late in the fifth game. Stanford will open the road trip on Friday with a match against the University of Virginia women.

In other top-10 action, Columbia will face Drexel on Saturday. Columbia’s men and women, ranked No. 4 and 7, respectively, will be tested on the road against the No. 7 and No. 9-ranked Drexel teams. On Sunday, Drexel will host Trinity. The defending national champion Bantam men enter the season ranked No. 1, with the women ranked No. 3.

Cornell and Williams will play their first matches of the season against each other on Friday. Cornell will then continue a full opening weekend with matches against Dickinson, as well as a men’s match against Western Ontario, on Saturday.

Connecticut College will open its first season under new head coach Michael MacDonald with a road trip to Maine, where the men’s and women’s teams face Colby and Bates on Saturday and Bowdoin on Sunday. The Maine schools will kick off their own three-way rivalry for the season on Friday with a match between Bates and Bowdoin.
