Minnesota: 2014 – 2015 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Minnesota, University ofMinneapolis, MN — Things look bright for Minnesota. The Gophers gained valuable experience at last season’s Team Championships, and best of all, they did not graduate any players from their starting 9. This season, the Gophers are adding a new coach, David Baker, and four convertible courts to their existing five courts. In addition, the team is adding 5 new players, who are capable of challenging for positions on the ladder. Minnesota will be heading to the Navy Round Robin in the fall, the team’s first regular season East Coast trip. This will be extremely valuable for the Gophers and allow them to test their skills against a variety of teams. They are also planning to host a round robin later in the year. Number 1 player Wei Sien Goh is returning for his senior season. According to assistant coach John Stever, “Wei Sien is not the captain, but as the number one player on the roster, he is an invaluable resource to the other team members. He spends much of his practice time drilling and working with the middle and low end players for their benefit and the team’s benefit. He carries a constant positive attitude about the team and about school that infects the other players.” For Minnesota to improve, they will need to play with and against teams with 9 players.
