Washington: 2014 – 2015 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Washington, University ofSeattle, WA — Last season marked the first time in recent memory that the University of Washington finished the season ranked outside of the top 50. Team co-captain Kaija Perkiomaki explains that the Huskies’ goal is “to move back up to the top 50 teams in the country.” Washington played the majority of its regular season matches with or against teams with less than 9 players. To move up in the rankings, they will need a full roster. The top 3 positions in their 2013 – 2014 ladder were successful, winning 72% of matches. The remainder of the ladder was less successful, capturing only 36% of matches. Fortunately, the Huskies expect an addition. According to Perkiomaki, “Andrés Yépez, number 3 player in Ecuador, will be joining the team, playing at the top of the roster.” That should assist as Washington looks to replace its three graduates from last season.  The team is looking forward to facing Cal Berkeley, who they lost to 4-5 last season. Defeating Cal Berkeley would help Washington move higher in the rankings this season.
