Northeastern: 2013 – 2014 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Northeastern University Boston, MA — Northeastern competed in the D Division at the 2013 Women’s National Team Championships. The Huskies had a rough go of it in the Epps Cup competition, suffering three straight losses in the tournament to close out the season. However, Northeastern put up a fight, and they won two or more matches in each contest during the event. This season, the Huskies’ goal is to improve their team ranking. In their favor is the fact that five of the top six players from last year’s championship line-up will be back in action. Cami Viola, who was away from the team on an internship, will also be back and should play in the upper half of the ladder. The team will be even stronger in the spring semester when Hoai Tran returns from study abroad; Tran played number 7 last season. There’s also more good news for the future: only one returner, co-captain Olivia Simone, is a senior. Sara Grisales-Olaya, who played number 9 last year, should also return to the team when she completes study abroad. Last year’s championships will be an experience the team can learn from for the future.
