London, ON — After an 8-1 win in the first round of last season’s Men’s National Team Championships, the Mustangs of Western Ontario hit a speed bump in the B Division semifinals. Dartmouth, the top seed in the division, nearly held off the fifth-seeded Mustangs, who advanced to the finals with a 5-4 win. They took the division title with a 7-2 win over Williams, finishing ninth overall. This year, the Mustangs are aiming for the top ten again, but they have their sights on the A Division. “Top 8 would be amazing,” says head coach Dave Morrish. Western Ontario has scheduled matches that will help put them in position to compete for a coveted berth in the Pool Trophy competition. They will be taking on Williams and Dartmouth as well as F&M, Cornell, and Rochester. Three new players will be joining the team, and Albert Shoihet, who will co-captain the team with Adrian Ostbye, was a runner up in the World Maccabiah Games this summer. “The players are more committed than ever and raring to go!” says Morrish.
