Notre Dame: 2012 – 2013 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

South Bend, IN — The Fighting Irish have two goals for the upcoming season. One is to improve upon their 8-11 record from last season. The other is to finish higher than 55th in the nation, their final ranking in 2012. Notre Dame finished seventh in the Hawthorn Cup last season, and they improved over their 58th-place finish the year before. The Fighting Irish should be able to continue their steady upward trajectory. Several newcomers have already expressed interest in the team, and it’s no wonder. “Irish squash is always a lot of fun,” says coach Geoff McCuen. The team can look forward to a trip to the West Coast Round Robin this season. TJ Sarda and Paul Mickan will be trading off as co-captains. While Sarda is studying abroad during the fall, Mickan will captain the squad; they’ll swap roles in the spring, when Sarda returns and Mickan heads overseas. Sarda and Mickan played back-to-back in the order last season, so that should keep the line-up fairly stable even though they’ll be trading places.
