Providence, RI — Brown won the 2012 Kurtz Cup in thrilling fashion, outlasting Williams 5-4 in one of the most exciting contests at last season’s National Team Championships. Only one player from last year’s starting line-up has graduated, and three new players should compete for spots in the middle of the order. The new players are Skylar Murphy (Greenwich Academy), Isabel Pitaro (Brearley School), and Emily Richmond (St. Clement’s School). When number 2 Sarah Domenick returns from study abroad in the spring, the team will be even stronger. Buoyed by the B Division title and a deeper ladder, the Bears are aiming for the A Division. “We have a really good balance of younger and older players this season,” says head coach Stuart le Gassick, who will be joined by new assistant coach Chris Sachvie, a former All-American at Cornell who assisted at St. Lawrence last season. Le Gassick describes his team as “close and hard working” players who “enjoy representing their University.” Dartmouth, Williams, Middlebury, and Bates will all be key matches for the Bears as they make their bid for the next division.
