Around the Courts: College Squash Highlights (11/13/2011)

College Squash AssociationNorthampton, MA —  This weekend featured college squash matches at the Naval Academy’s Veterans’ Day Round Robin, in Boston, and at the Ivy League Scrimmages.

In Annapolis, Navy’s opening weekend success continued with five 9-0 wins. The Midshipmen beat Swarthmore, Georgetown, Kenyon, Hobart, and Washington.  Hobart went 2-2 at the Veterans’ Day Round Robin. The Statesmen beat Drexel and Johns Hopkins, but lost to Navy and George Washington. Washington’s trip to the East Coast was challenging. The Huskies opened with an 8-1 victory over Swarthmore, but lost their remaining matches to Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Kenyon, and Navy.

In women’s action at the Veterans’ Day Round Robin, George Washington shutout Drexel. The Dragons also lost to  Johns Hopkins.

In Boston, Smith and Wellesley battled. Tied at 4-4, Smith’s Jacqueline Zhou defeated Wellesley’s Emma Haley in five games to propel Smith to a victory. Both Smith and Wellesley defeated Haverford. Haverford’s men faced MIT and Boston College. The Fords lost both contests.

At the 2011 Ivy League Scrimmages, the league pre-season event, Harvard’s men and women went undefeated in team play.  Also of note, Columbia’s women defeated Brown 5-4. CollegeSquashAssociation.com will have photos and videos from the scrimmages in the coming days.

Coaches and Team Contacts, please remember to enter your team’s results in the US Squash Scoring System on the day of each match. Each player must be named in the results (“Not on Roster” entries will not be tolerated) or penalties may be applied.
