Around the Courts: College Squash Weekend Highlights (12/12/2010)

Northampton, MA — Even though the semester is winding down, there were still a few college squash matches this week.

All teams that competed this week MUST record their match scores as soon as possible in the US Squash Database. If scores are not reported, it is impossible to rank teams accurately, and penalties, including possible removal from the rankings, will occur.

Many teams need to add their players to the US Squash Database and fix the “Not on Roster” entries.

Teams are also reminded that acceptable eyewear (eye protection) is required for all college squash matches, including warmups and match play. Standard eyewear (i.e. everyday prescription glasses) may not be worn in place of acceptable eyewear.

On Thursday, the Penn men continued their winning streak against the Naval Academy.  The Quakers last lost to the Midshipmen in 2001. Navy rebounded by defeating Drexel by a 9-0 margin.

Also on Thursday, Wesleyan faced Conn College. In men’s action, Wesleyan won 7-2, while the Wesleyan women shutout the Camels.

MIT travelled to Northeastern.  MIT was looking to leapfrog Northeastern in the men’s rankings, but fell 3-6.

Amherst faced Pioneer Valley rival Smith College this week.  The Lord Jeffs captured the match 8-1.  Smith’s Clair Oblamski won the sole match for Smith College.

The only matches of the weekend were between Amherst and Northeastern.  Amherst won the men’s and women’s matches, 9-0.
