Bates: 2009 – 2010 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Bates CollegeLewiston, ME — With a 16-8 record last season, head coach Pat Cosquer’s return to his alma mater could be deemed a success; however, Cosquer and the Bobcats have even higher goals for the upcoming season. From last year’s squad, the team returns most of its top players.  In addition, there are nine players entering Bates that will compete for positions in the ladder.  The mix of returning and new players should help Bates as they pursue their goal of earning a position in the top ten of the College Squash Association’s team rankings.

The upcoming season brings excitement to Lewiston, ME.  The team will debut its new three-wall glass exhibition court, and a training hike is on the agenda as the team prepares for the season. The players are also planning a trip to New York City to watch the Tournament of Champions.

Prior to coaching at Bates, Cosquer worked at StreetSquash in New York City.  So it is no surprise that the men’s and women’s teams serve as tutors and mentors, on and off the squash court, to kids from Somalia and Sudan that reside in Lewiston. Patrick Williams ’11 even ran a 6-week summer squash camp for Somalian and Sudananese kids.
