Northeastern: 2009 – 2010 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

northeasternBoston, MA — The 2008-2009 season was a challenging one for the Northeastern Huskies. After finishing the 2007-2008 season ranked 21st, Northeastern lost several key players to graduation. Then number 1 Tessa Martin suffered a stress fracture, ending her season, and the team lost its number 9 player as well.

Despite these setbacks, the Huskies showed their toughness at Howe Cup, pulling out 5-4 wins over Smith and Conn College before falling to William Smith 3-6 in the Epps Cup final. With a healthy Martin back at the top of the line-up and all but two players from last year’s team returning, the Huskies are ready to make it back into the C Division.

They will have a new coach, Chris Reigeluth, to help them. The team has had two different coaches the past two years, and they struggled to find a new coach at the beginning of the summer. Reigeluth signed on in June, and the Huskies are excited about working with a new coach.

The growing team will be led by captains Diana Toubman, Emily Raho, and Katie O’Neill, who spent two months over the summer studying in Africa. The players will continue to be involved with SquashBusters, who partnered with Northeastern University to build the facility where the team practices. All in all, the Huskies are looking forward to what should be an exciting season.
