Drexel: 2018-2019 Men’s College Squash Preview

Over the previous five seasons leading up to last year, the Drexel Men’s Squash team steadily marched up the rankings, finishing as high as sixth in 2017. With some key players missing from the roster last year, however, they took a step back, finishing the year in 13th place. One of the biggest missing pieces was former Number 1 player Omar El Atmas. El Atmas returns in 2018-2019 along with other top contributor Luke Willemse to give Head Coach John White’s squad some optimism about their chances of rejoining the A Division in the coming year.  Joining El Atmas and Willemse at the top of the order will be experience senior Bransten Ming and Second Team All-American junior Lucas Rousselet, who made a run in a Molloy Division (B draw) bracket at CSA Individual Nationals to earn that honor.  White performs an even swap in roster numbers, losing four players to graduation but gaining four promising first-years, including big-hitting Matias Knudson out of Colombia.  The battles around the 8-12 ranking positions will be some of the toughest of year with teams looking to jump into the A Division draw, and Drexel will be right in the middle of it all. Historic powerhouse Yale, upstart Virginia, and hungry Cornell all face Drexel during the regular season looking to capture an edge in the rankings.
