Penn: 2018-2019 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

The University of Pennsylvania Women’s Squash team had high hopes coming off a National Final appearance in 2017, but injuries and inexperience troubled the team throughout the 2017-2018.  Even though the Penn women avenged a regular season loss to Columbia at the National Championships, finishing sixth in the Howe Cup was not what they had been hoping for. Graduation claimed two parts of the Penn’s All-American triad – Melissa Alves and Marie Stephan – leaving reigning CSA National Champion Reeham Salah to lead the charges.  Salah will aim to reach her fourth straight Individual National final in her senior season while hoping to lead the Quakers back into the top half of the A Division.  Head Coach Jack Wyant will look to two returning players, Rowaida Attia and Jessica Davis, to slide into those vacated spots at the top of the lineup, along with incoming first-year Jamila Tamer.  Players from last year’s Number 4 through 10 slots all return providing much needed depth and experience as long as they can keep the injuries at bay.  Penn will take on their typical Ivy League rivals for a chance at the trophy, and they will meet Stanford’s squad on one of their east coast swings. All Penn home matches will be held at Drexel’s Daskalakis Athletic Center while their home courts undergo a major renovation.
