2016 Men’s National Team Championships: Serues Cup Final

New Haven, CT — Northeastern University defeated Boston University to win the 2016 Serues Cup and F Division title.

Both based in Boston, BU and Northeastern had already faced each other twice this season. BU won 5-4 back in November, and Northeastern won 8-1 in late January.

The two teams were closely matched at the beginning of today’s final. Northeastern won in three at number 3, but a five-game win at number 6 and a four-game win at number 9 gave the Huskies the edge at the end of the first round.

BU quickly erased that lead with another three-game win at number 2, tying the match at 2-all. With a win to the Terriers at number 8 and a win to the Huskies at number 5, the two teams entered the third round locked at 3-all.

The final flight of matches went Northeastern’s way. The Huskies won in three at number 7 and in four at number 1, with both contests featuring matches going to tie-breakers. With those two wins, Northeastern had claimed the Serues Cup.

The final score was Northeastern 6, BU 3.

This is Northeastern’s first Serues Cup victory and their first division title since 2014.
