Women’s Featured Match: #14 Georgetown, #15 Williams

No. 14 Georgetown and No. 15 Williams played to a razor-thin 5-4 decision. Mirroring the scoreline of last season’s Kurtz Cup semifinal, the Hoyas’ strength at the top and efficiency in the middle of the lineup proved just enough to defeat the Ephs’ home defense in Williamstown.

Georgetown established early momentum, taking a 2-1 lead in the opening wave. While Williams’ Rhea Pandit looked sharp in a 3-0 victory at the #2 spot, Georgetown countered with wins at the #9 spot (Katie Hennessy beating Mahika Gupta 3-1) and the #5 spot (Ella Erickson defeating Roshni Pal 3-0).

The Hoyas then surged in the middle phase of the match to put the contest out of reach.

At #1 Georgetown’s Cecilia Curran anchored the team with a 3-0 sweep over Melanie Wang.

The Hoyas continued to roll with Mary Kacergis (#4) and Lindsay Lee (#7) securing victories. Lee’s win came despite a hard-fought challenge from Williams’ Anika Kakarla, who took a game off the Hoya before falling 3-1.

These wins pushed Georgetown to the decisive five points needed for victory before the final matches concluded.

  • At #3: Frances Brooks added a point for the home team with a 3-1 win.
