Penn: 2018-2019 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Over the last month of the regular season in 2018, the Penn Men’s Squash team endured a grueling stretch of nine matches, including seven contests against teams ranked in the top 9 in the country at the time.  Six of those matches finished with a 5-4 final team score, and Penn had a 3-3 record in matches finishing with that score. Head Coach Gilly Lane will hope the younger members of his squad gained valuable experience from those tight contests because they will face a similar run-in to the CSA Team National Championships this year without four senior starters who have since graduated. The Quakers were as high as 5th in the rankings a few years ago, and Lane appears to have built a lineup that is ready to return to that Top-5 standing as soon as this season.  A few high-impact first-years will hit the court for the first time this year, and they will have a powerful backstop in rising sophomore star Andrew Douglas. Penn will face every team around them in the preseason rankings with all home matches taking place at Drexel University’s Daskalakis Athletic Center while their new courts are being constructed.  Look for Penn to make some noise again in both the Ivy League play and the National Championship picture.
