Cornell: 2018-2019 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

The Cornell Women’s Squash team has participated in Howe Cup (A Division) play at the CSA Team Naitonal Championships for the last ten years. 2018 is the closest the Big Red have come to falling out of the top 8, finishing the regular season in 8th place and playing to their seed in the postseason.  Now Head Coach David Palmer faces the biggest obstacle of his short tenure in Ithaca: maintain that level of achievement after losing four out of his five starters from last year’s Howe Cup ladder.  Palmer and his squad will rely on their depth to win the big matches as the bottom half of last year’s lineup is made up of all upperclassmen this year, players with a lot of meaningful experience under their belts.  Assistance will come in the form of a few strong recruits who will aim to get up to speed with the college game right away.  An important match against Ivy League rival Columbia is the culminating match of Cornell’s fall semester, and then they will work to hold their position against hard-charging Dartmouth, Drexel, and George Washington in January.
