Harvard: 2018-2019 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

According to Head Coach Mike Way, Harvard’s goal each year is to contend for the Ivy League Championship, the CSA National Championship, and the CSA Individual Championship.  The succeeded in meeting the goal, being in the top two in each competition, but the actual results may have surprised some people.  The only championship the Crimson Men won came from a Cinderella run in the Individual Championship from now-graduated senior David Ryan. Harvard already avenged their regular season loss to Columbia with a resounding victory in the semifinals of the 2018 Team National Championship, but it’s the Ivy League title that Harvard will want to claim back this year. They are lined up for another run at the National Championship this year too, although they will need top-level performances from their three incoming first-years to fill the shoes of those who have moved on. Ryan and fellow seniors Madhav Dhingra and Bradley Smith were mainstays in the Harvard lineup for four years, and it will be challenging to maintain that level of consistency.  Team leadership now falls to super junior trio Saadeldin Abouaish, Timmy Brownell, and Sean Hughes, the top three players in last year’s lineup.  The usual suspects come calling, including defending national champion Trinity and all of Harvard’s Ivy League peers.
