George Washington: 2018-2019 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

After winning the Hoehn Cup in 2018, the George Washington Men’s Squash team is eager to get back on court and to start competing again.  Winning the B Division championship and clinching the 9th spot in the final 2017-2018 team rankings were two first-time accomplishments for a team that is clearly on the rise. Now GW can set their sights on the logical next step for a team who captured its first Hoehn Cup crown: breaking into the A Division for the first time in program history.  The timing may not be better for Head Coach Wendy Lawrence and her crew.  Eight of the ten starters from last year’s championship run return to the lineup, including Second Team All-American Mahmoud Abdel-Maksoud and experience Number 2 player Jamie Oakley.  Add to the mix three promising first-year players, and Lawrence will have a deep, competitive, battle-tested squad at her disposal.  Yale, the team GW beat in that Hoehn Cup final, comes calling again in the regular season, but GW will have to unseat one of the teams ahead of them – Princeton, Penn, or Rochester – in order to reach their goal for the year.
