Stanford: 2016 – 2017 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Stanford University Palo Alto, CA — A season removed from being the top men’s club team in the nation, Stanford wants to surpass Virginia and regain that title. To do this, Stanford recognizes the need to travel and play teams of a similar caliber. According to head coach Mark Talbott, “Every match we play is important, as our trips and number of matches are limited due to travel distance and budget. Our schedule reflects the teams ranked immediately in front of us as well as the teams ranked closely behind us.” The team showed growth throughout the season last year. The squad lost to MIT twice in the regular season but topped the Engineers in the Conroy Cup (D Division) at the Men’s College Squash Association National Team Championships. Co-captain Parker Odrich is ready for his fourth season in Stanford’s top 3. Talbott relays that Odrich’s “enthusiasm and joy for the sport is evident every day. He leads by example and is always willing to play with anyone and encourage and help the younger players. It is key to any program to have your senior captains set the tone and example in this manner.” Stanford may have challenges regaining the top club team position, but look for them to be up for the quest.
