Denison: 2016 – 2017 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Denison University Granville, OH — Last season, Denison’s strength was at the top of its ladder. With two thirds of the top 3 returning this season, the Big Red will hopefully continue that strong play. Three first year players will help solidify the Denison line-up. According to head coach Walt Thieman, “Our team really likes each other and has fun both at practice and traveling to matches. They support each other in academics and personal issues along with the sport of squash.” The Big Red are planning a number of trips this season. “Our weekend at the Naval Academy in late November will be a challenge as we will be competing against Stanford, M.I.T., Hobart, and the Naval Academy. Losing to all these teams when we last played them, our hopes are to get even. We are also hosting a round robin the first weekend of November in Buffalo. Bucknell and Washington University (St. Louis) will be there and hopefully another quality opponent. In late January both the men’s and women’s teams will be playing in Carlisle, Pennsylvania against Dickinson and Haverford. This will be the first time our men and women will compete together and we hope to represent ourselves well in this competition.” Look for Denison to build on their success from last season.
