Minnesota: 2016 – 2017 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Minnesota, University of Minneapolis, MN — Minnesota may have challenges this season. According to coach John Stevers, “We have a challenge to boost fundraising efforts since funding from the Rec Sports department has been significantly reduced.” Hopefully this will not prevent the Gophers from hosting or traveling to matches. Their regular season competition last season did not prepare the entire team for the Men’s College Squash Association National Team Championships. Of their eleven regular season matches, only three matches were nine-player matches. To continue to improve, the Gophers will need to face complete teams throughout the regular season. On the bright side, Minnesota is returning seven players from last season’s starting line-up from Team Championships. Minnesota may be challenged if they cannot get nine player matches during the regular season.
