Virginia: 2016 – 2017 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Virginia, University of Charlottesville, VA — Virginia surprised many by concluding the season with a 3rd-place finish in the Summers Cup (C Division) at the Men’s College Squash Association National Team Championships. The Cavaliers are the first men’s club squash team to finish inside the top 20 ranking positions since Dension in the 2006 – 2007 season. According to assistant coach Grant White, “As part of the program’s continuing effort to help promote the development of intercollegiate squash in the United States, the Virginia teams have organized and will serve as host for the Virginia Squash Home Round Robin, which will take place the weekend of February 3-5. The focus of this year’s event is to encourage competition between ACC schools and the field will include Boston College, Duke, University of Miami, Notre Dame, UNC, and Wake Forest. The invitational will serve as a showcase for teams from the universities and regions that will be key to the future growth of the game.” For Virginia to exceed last year’s results, the Cavaliers will need to seize 5-4 matches. Last year’s 4-5 losses to Franklin & Marshall and Colby were missed opportunities. As Virginia continues to expand its matches with varsity teams, look for their experience and season ending ranking to rise.
