ussquashdoublesPhiladelphia, PA — The 2015 – 2016 Intercollegiate Doubles Championships were held this weekend at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia, the Germantown Cricket Club, and the Philadelphia Cricket Club

This season, 9 schools were represented at the event: Drexel, Haverford, Franklin & Marshall, Navy, NYU, Penn, Princeton, Rochester, and St. Lawrence.

The intercollegiate doubles championships, which were restarted in 1988 with help from Keen Butcher and Rusty Ball, celebrated their twenty-eighth consecutive men’s tournament, fifth year of women’s competition, and fourth year of mixed doubles competition.

The women’s draw had two squads. Princeton players and defending champions Maria Elena Ubina and Olivia Fiechter faced Franklin & Marshall’s Sherilyn Yang and Dulakshi Elikewela. Ubina and Fiechter earned their second consecutive title with a three game victory (15-8, 15-8, and 15-8). This is Ubina’s third time winning the women’s doubles title.

In the men’s event, Rochester’s Neil Cordell and Mario Yanez, the defending champions, faced Navy’s Senen Ubina
and Billy Kacergis. This marked Kacergis’ third consecutive trip to the finals. After being down 0-2 in games, Ubina and Kacergis came back to capture the match in five games (11-15, 5-15, 15-13, 15-14, and 15-12). This is Navy’s second doubles title in the past three years.

In the mixed doubles tournament, Princeton’s Jarryd Osborne and Maria Elena Ubina met Penn’s George Lemmon and Anaka Alankamony in the final. The Penn duo ended Ubina’s two year winning streak in the event, capturing the match in three games (15-9, 15-6, and 15-12)
