Navy: 2015 – 2016 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Naval Academy, United StatesAnnapolis, MD — The United States Naval Academy started last season on a high note. After winning the 2013 – 2014 Men’s National Intercollegiate Doubles Championship, the Midshipmen sent another pair back to the finals. Navy hopes to regain the doubles crown this year and plans to also compete for the mixed doubles crown. Navy captain Bill Kacergis, a two-time finalist in the Intercollegiate Doubles Championship, will be key in the Midshipmen’s doubles quest. The team also upset Princeton, 5-4, early last season. After losing three stalwarts of the squad to graduation, the team is expecting five freshman to earn spots in the starting nine. In observance of the anniversary of D-Day, Navy’s non-graduating team members trained and visited France during the offseason. The trip brought the team closer together. According to head coach Craig Dawson, the team is a “close knit group with every player putting the team first.” Navy will travel to Chicago for a Halloween showdown with the University of Western Ontario, an important early season match. After a disappointing National Team Championships, Navy is looking to regain their form this season. With at least a 0.67 win percentage out each third of their ladder last year, if they can replace their graduates, Navy could be in the mix for the upper half of the B division.
