Northampton, MA — For the week ending 1/11/2015, George Washington’s Lindsey Dewey and Bates’ Jason Shrubb have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Lindsey Dewey (George Washington University): George Washington traveled to Northern California for a winter training trip. The squad faced Stanford, the 7th-ranked team in the nation, on the Cardinal’s home courts. Earlier this season, the Colonials lost 3-6 to Stanford at a neutral site. At the match at the #8 position, first-year student Lindsey Dewey faced Stanford’s Julia Olson. After being down 0-1 in games, Dewey won the next three games to win the individual match (8-11, 11-4, 12-10, and 11-5), giving George Washington the deciding victory to upset Stanford, 5-4.

Jason Shrubb (Bates College): Bates faced 12th-ranked Navy on Saturday. The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but Navy tied the team match at 4-4. The team match concluded with the #7s, which featured Bates senior Jason Shrubb and Navy senior John Hsu. In the fifth game, Hsu was awarded a stroke after accidentally hitting Shrubb with his racquet. Tied at 9-9, Shrubb regrouped and won the final two points to capture the individual contest (10-12, 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, and 11-9) and seal team match for Bates.
