Stanford, CA — Stanford has been amongst the top 8 teams in the nation since the 2007 – 2008 season. With a number of teams vying for positions in Howe Cup (A Division), Stanford will be fighting to maintain that streak this season. The Cardinal team will face several of the teams right behind them during the regular season, including Dartmouth, George Washington, Columbia, and Brown. Head coach Mark Talbott explains that improving their ranking “will be difficult this season with our number 1 player Maddy Gill taking a gap year, but we are all happy and excited for her to have the chance to travel and play squash at this point in her life.” The team is welcoming 3 first-year players, who are expected to compete for positions in the starting lineup. As always, Stanford will spend the season commuting to the East Coast for matches. Look for senior captains Ally Huchro, Ariel Posner, Alex Yorke, and Theresa Shropshire to bring the team together on these cross-continental adventures. Yorke “is the ultimate team player and captain who always quietly leads by example and never complains. Her positive attitude and work ethic contributes to team chemistry. She has consistently improved her four years and earned the respect from her teammates. She is a great example for the younger players,” adds Talbott. Stanford will be in the mix for one of the final positions in the A Division this season.
