Princeton: 2014 – 2015 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Princeton UniversityPrinceton, NJ — After finishing to the 2014 – 2015 college squash season ranked 5th in the nation, the Princeton Tigers want to return to the top half of the Howe Cup (A Division) and vie for the Ivy League and national titles. The team will need to replace several stalwarts in their line-up, but the addition of three first-year players, including Olivia Fiechter, should help fill the gaps. According to head coach Gail Ramsay, “We graduated some great players and they won some big matches for us.  I am confident my freshman recruits will come in strong and competitive.” The Tigers will be led by its seniors, including captain Alex Lunt, Hallie Dewey, and Nicole Bunyan. Bunyan, the highest on the ladder of the three seniors, had great wins under pressure last season. “I am expecting her to set the tone for the team at practice along with the other two seniors.   She leads by example and that is exactly what our team responds to,” adds Ramsay. A few new matches have been aded to the Tigers’ schedule, include Wesleyan (first meeting since 1983) and George Washington.  To make a leap in the rankings, Princeton needs to win 5-4 matches. Last season, they twice came up short, 4-5,  in their regular season and their Howe Cup matches against Yale. Ramsay is confident that her team will improve: “We work hard on our team dynamics and it really pays off. The women enjoy their experience and make the best of a great opportunity.”
