Middlebury: 2014 – 2015 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Middlebury CollegeMiddlebury, VT — The Summers Cup (C Division) has been incredibly successful for the Middlebury Panthers over the past six years. The squad has captured four Summers Cups during that time period, including last season’s cup. Looking back at the unexpected passing of beloved coach John Illig, the Panthers can remember that their last match under his leadership brought a trophy back to Vermont.  Mike Morgan, Middlebury’s women’s tennis coach, will serve as the interim squash coach this season. According to co-captain Reed Palmer, Middlebury wishes “to come together as a team to play with grace, class, dignity, humility, and respect in memory of former Middlebury coach and friend John Illig.” The team will continue the Illig tradition of a fall hike. The Panthers are returning 7 of the 9 players from their Team Championship roster, including senior William Hanley. Hanley, a southpaw, won the clinching match in the Summers Cup final against Brown. The team will also welcome 3 freshmen with prep squash experience. Look for Middlebury to be focused this season and attempt to move into the Hoehn Cup (B Division).
