2014 College Squash Individual Championships: Day 2 Afternoon Report

College Squash AssociationPhiladelphia, PA — The semifinal match-ups are set in the A Division after the early afternoon matches.

Ramsay Cup (Women’s A Division): Two-time defending Ramsay Cup champion Amanda Sobhy of Harvard will play Anaka Alankamony of Penn in the first semifinal. Sobhy defeated Harvard teammate Haley Mendez in three games to advance, while Alankamony survived a five-game battle with Princeton’s Maria Elena Ubina. The second semifinal will feature Yale’s Millie Tomlinson and Trinity’s Kanzy El Defrawy. Tomlinson, the 2011 individual champion, defeated Cornell’s Danielle Letourneau in three games in the quarterfinals. El Defrawy faced Trinity teammate Catalina Pelaez, the 2014 Richey Award winner. Pelaez kept the match close through four games, but El Defrawy pulled away in the fifth to reach the semifinals.

Holleran Cup (Women’s B Division): Annie Ballaine (Yale), Chloe Blacker (Penn), Leslie Gill (Penn), Zandra Ho (Stanford), Shiyuan Mao (Yale), Elisabeth Money (Drexel), Rachel Scherman (Cornell), and Lindsay Seginson (Cornell) all advanced to the quarterfinals. Gill and Seginson competed in the first quarterfinal match, and Gill earned a berth in the semis with a four-game win.

Pool Trophy (Men’s A Division): The first men’s semifinal will feature 2011 individual champion and 2014 Skillman Award winner Ali Farag of Harvard versus Moustafa Bayoumy of St. Lawrence. Both Farag and Bayoumy advanced in three games; Farag defeated Princeton’s Sammy Kang, and Bayoumy beat Cornell’s Nick Sachvie. Defending individual champion Amr Khaled Khalifa of St. Lawrence will play Ramit Tandon of Columbia in the second semifinal. Khalifa defeated Rochester’s Mario Yanez in three games. Tandon also advanced on a three-game win over a Rochester player, Neil Cordell.

Molloy Cup (Men’s B Division): The Molloy Cup quarterfinals were scheduled for this afternoon.
