[rankingimage] Northampton, MA — Today, the sixth [mtr] of the season were released.

Cornell’s 6-3 victory over Rochester moved the Big Red into the fifth ranking position this week. Similarly, Williams took the 10th spot after defeating Columbia.

A trio of “B” schools (Bates, Bowdoin, and Brown), caused complexity this week. Brown beat Bates, 5-4, but lost to Bowdoin, 4-5. Earlier in the season, Bates defeated Bowdoin, 8-1.  According to the CSA ranking rules, in this situation, the individual matches won are used to break the tie: Bates won 12 individual matches, Brown won 9 individual matches, and Bowdoin won 6 individual matches. Bates dropped to 15th, while Brown and Bowdoin remained unchanged from last week’s rankings.

Hamilton’s 5-4 victory over Drexel continued the complexity in the rankings. The ranking committee reviewed in detail the head-to-head results between Colby, Conn, Drexel, and Hamilton. In the end, Drexel had the most individual match victories against the other three schools, followed by Hamilton, Colby, and Conn. Drexel also beat Amherst earlier in the season, which resulted in the 21st – 25th positions in this week’s rankings.

Haverford’s victory over BU moved the Fords into 31st, while Fordham’s 5-4 victory over Swarthmore led the Rams to the 46th ranking position.

  • Varsity teams are required to play ten (10) matches against other CSA teams to enter team championships. At minimum, each team should have at least 6 different opponents. Varsity teams should play the majority of their matches against other varsity schools.
  • Club teams are required to play eight (8) matches against other CSA teams to enter team championships in a 9 player division.
