Wellesley: 2012 – 2013 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Wellesley, MA — After winning the 2010 E Division title, Wellesley hasn’t looked back. The Blue competed in the D Division in 2011 and jumped to the C Division last season. “We’ve steadily climbed 15 positions in the rankings over the past three years, and aim to continue this trend,” says head coach Wendy Berry. Several players will be studying abroad this year, including last season’s number 2, Emma Haley, who will be away all year. Sara Del Balzo and Stephanie Lee will be abroad in the fall, and while they’re away, the Blue will work to maintain their position from last season. Once the two players return in the spring, the team will work on improving their ranking position. Sophomore Nidhi Saxena and four first-year players — Gabriella Wynne, Mollee Jain, Charlotte Benishek, and Kate Loftus — will be joining the team, who have plans for a winter training trip to the Cayman Islands. Emaline Surgenor, Margo Sulmont, and Rosemary O’Connor will be the team’s tri-captains.  “They are very much a ‘team’ with true team spirit. They are committed to the program and everyone on the team,” says Berry of her players.
