Rochester: 2012 – 2013 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Rochester, NY — For the Rochester Yellowjackets, their match against William Smith is something of a barometer. They have played the Herons regularly in the past but have never managed to beat them. This season, Rochester hopes that a reinvigorated practice schedule and new players will help them draw closer to William Smith and their other competitors. “The Rochester women hope to up the ante this season by reforming team practices in order to achieve a more competitive edge than in past seasons,” says tri-captain Sarah deLahunta.  “This young and continually growing team aspires to reach a level of play that can keep pace with the local varsity teams they encounter before Nationals each year.” This year, the Yellowjackets will have three new players with squash experience: Sarah Shafik, Emma Moore, and Aastha Narula. Kristen Scherb, who was studying abroad, will rejoin the team, and the Yellowjackets expect to have several other new players on the squad. The team also has plans to engage the Rochester campus and community through fundraisers, spreading their love of the game.
