Penn: 2012 — 2013 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Philadelphia, PA — Penn, the defending Hoehn Cup champions, have A Division ambitions. The Quakers defeated Columbia decisively for last season’s B Division crown, coming back strong after a lopsided loss to Western Ontario in the 2011 Hoehn Cup final. Taking home the B Division title was nice, but now Penn wants a shot at the national title. The first step is to get back into the A Division, and F&M, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Navy will be key matches along the way. First up, though, will be the doubles championships, which Penn dominated last year and which will be played in Philadelphia again this year. The two seniors who graduated last year — Thomas Mattsson and Trevor McGuinness — teamed up to win the 2011-2012 doubles championship, recapturing a title they won their freshman year. McGuinness also won the inaugural mixed doubles title with Colleen Fehm last year. Mattsson and McGuinness will leave holes in the top half of the ladder that the three new players joining the team will try to help fill. The newcomers are Tyler Odell (Episcopal Academy), Liam Quinn (Belmont Hill), and Augie Frank (Chestnut Hill Academy).
