Hamilton, NY — Colgate graduated four players from last season’s top ten, including their number 1 and number 2. Captain Gray Huffard, who is returning from a semester abroad, takes a positive view of the work that lies ahead for the team. “While the team lost several important players with last year’s graduating class, we hope to attract new players from the freshman class,” he says. “It is important that we work to manage our conditioning off the squash court in order to prevent injury and remain competitive with several schools.” The team has plans to work with a new fitness trainer and to continue to work with Graham Bassett, who helped coach them in the past. The Red Raiders are also planning to add more trips to their schedule this season, increasing their exposure to different teams. As Huffard points out, travel will have other benefits as well. “These trips will also help to develop a strong team unit which will certainly help us compete at a higher level,” he says. Colgate may have some rebuilding to do, but they also have a clear plan in place for how they will improve.
