2012 NESCAC Women’s College Squash All-Conference Team

Hadley, MA — The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) released its 2011-2012 All-Conference team for women’s squash earlier this spring.

This year’s Player of the Year is no stranger to conference honors. Last year, Trinity’s Catalina Pelaez was named NESCAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Pelaez, who went 10-3 during the regular season playing at number 1 for the Bantams, was named Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The Trinity sophomore earned First Team All-American honors this year after helping lead the Bantams to the NESCAC championship and a third-place finish at the 2012 Women’s National Team Championships.

Bates’ Nessrine Ariffin was named 2012 Rookie of the Year. Ariffin, who played number 1 for the 12th-ranked Bobcats, had a stellar debut season. She went 23-4 during the season, opening with an impressive twelve-match winning streak that included a five-game upset victory over Pelaez. Ariffin was also named a Second Team All-American for the 2011-2012 season.

Four players earned All-Conference honors in their final season of intercollegiate play. Williams senior Courtney Bogle was named to her fourth All-Conference squad, having earned First Team honors every time. Elena Laird of Middlebury was named to the First Team for the third time, and Alicia Rodriguez of Trinity and Kate Savage of Amherst both earned All-Conference honors for the first time. Rodriguez was named to the First Team, and Savage was named to the Second Team.

Sakhi Khan of Colby was named Coach of the Year. Colby came into the season ranked 24th in the nation and improved throughout the season to finish 21st, thanks in part to a strong win over NESCAC rivals Tufts on the final day of the Women’s National Team Championships.

Congratulations to all who earned post-season honors!
