Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week (1/15/2012)

Northampton, MA — For the week ending 1/15/2012, Trinity’s Katie Wymard and Princeton’s Dylan Ward have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

There were a number of deserving candidates. For the women, Harvard’s Haley Mendez won the deciding match against Princeton. Franklin & Marshall’s Roxana Mead went 3-1 on the weekend, which included a win against Williams. For the men, Cornell’s Alex Domenick went 2-1 with victories over Yale and Brown. Franklin & Marshall’s Gui De Melo remains undefeated with recent wins over Williams, Colby, and Trinity.

Katie Wymard (Trinity College): Trinity’s senior co-captain Katie Wymard went 3-0 on the weekend competing at the 9 and 10 positions. Two of her wins were tough five-game victories against top-7 teams. Against Cornell’s Sofia Thierry and Stanford’s  Ariel Posner, Wymard came back from 1-2 deficits to win. She also defeated Franklin & Marshall’s Tanya Arora.

Dylan Ward (Princeton University): Last season, Dylan Ward played in two matches for Princeton. This weekend, the Tigers faced Harvard in Cambridge. With the match tied at 4-4, Ward and Harvard’s Zeke Scherl played the deciding match. After dropping the first game 11-13, Ward battled back to capture the individual and team victory (11-13, 11-6, 13-11, and 11-8).
