[rankingimage] Northampton, MA — Today, the Dunlop 2011 – 2012 Women’s College Squash Preseason Team Rankings were released.

Yale, last season’s national champions and Howe Cup winners, will be looking to repeat this season. The team they narrowly defeated in the Howe Cup finals, Harvard, is looking to take back the title. The Crimson have made several additions to the top of their ladder, which moved Harvard to the top spot in the preseason rankings.

A number of teams will be making moves as the rankings unfold throughout the season. Eyes will be on Columbia and Drexel throughout the season. The two newest members of the varsity sorority  should ascend the rankings.

Eleven schools improved in the rankings from last season: Conn College, Drexel, George Washington, Harvard, Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Middlebury, Smith, St. Lawrence, Wellesley, and Williams. The following schools dropped spots in the rankings: Amherst, Brown, Georgetown, Mount Holyoke, NYU, Northeastern, and Yale.

Preseason rankings were based heavily on the team questionnaires returned for the 2011 – 2012 Season Previews, which included information on graduating and incoming players, and offseason training opportunities. Select schools have already commenced their seasons.  The results of these early matches were not factored into the preseason rankings.
