Columbia: 2011 – 2012 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

New York, NY — Columbia looks to continue the momentum from their strong debut as a varsity program last season.

After winning the Epps Cup (D Division) in 2009, the Lions moved up into the B Division in 2010. Though they finished last in Kurtz Cup play at the Women’s National Team Championships (Howe Cup), mid-season wins over Mount Holyoke and George Washington showed their potential to challenge more established varsity programs.

Columbia will play a full Ivy League schedule for the first time this season, and though they aren’t likely to be on par with the other Ivy squads quite yet, the young squad should gain valuable experience that may help them against other B Division teams. “We are improving every year,” says head coach Kelsey Engman, and with all but one player returning from last season and the addition of three new team members, the Lions should make even more noise in the Kurtz Cup this year.
