Northampton, MA — The second act of the 2010-2011 college squash season opened in California, where several East Coast teams traveled for training trips.
All teams that competed this weekend MUST record their match scores as soon as possible in the US Squash Database. If scores are not reported, it is impossible to rank teams accurately, and penalties, including possible removal from the rankings, will occur.
The Bates and George Washington women faced off at Stanford on January 5 for the first match of 2011. The Bobcats came away with an 8-1 win, which they followed with a 1-8 loss to host Standford. The Bates men swept the Cardinal before both Bobcat squads headed back east.
Most of the weekend’s action took place at Williams, where a number of NESCAC schools faced off. Aside from matching 0-9 losses to Yale, both Ephs teams dominated weekend play. The Williams women blanked Bowdoin and Colby, and they beat Bates 7-2. The Williams men beat Bates 9-0, Bowdoin 8-1, and Colby 6-3. The Middlebury men and women both defeated Bowdoin and Colby.
There will be more action in Western Massachusetts next weekend with the Pioneer Valley Invitational, which will be held at Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Smith.
Amherst was on the road this weekend, traveling up to Dartmouth to take on the Big Green. Dartmouth swept the Amherst men and women.
One of the closer matches of the weekend was between the Dartmouth and Yale women. Missing two of their players, the Bulldogs still came through with a 6-3 win. The Big Green took the top 3 spots, with the number 2 match going to 5 games. Yale All-American Sarah Toomey won the marathon second game 21-19, but Dartmouth captain Hannah Conant came back to win the match. The Yale men also won against Dartmouth 7-2.
